In 2022 I've got my first book commission for a personal book project. I was asked to illustrate and design the book cover, the book layout and one spot illustration for each story (16 in total).
First I read the stories and started of on paper to scribbled what came to mind. I pretty much sticked to my first ideas, because they felt intuitive and connected to the story right away. My drawing table looked much messier than these little insights of my roughs, For the cover I made a blue watercolor texture which I layed on top of the book cover colour. This made it feel a little bit more natural.
All drawings where drawn with pencil on paper. After scanning I cleaned and arranged them in Photoshop. After that I prepared the text in inDesign. I added the cleaned illustrations and played around with the spacing until it felt right.
